HC Deb 25 November 1954 vol 533 cc165-6W
Mr. J. Johnson

asked the Minister of Education (1) when he intends to publish the Report of the National Advisory Council on the Training and Supply of Teachers;

(2) whether he is now satisfied that there are sufficient people coming forward for training as technical teachers; and if he will state what is to be the future of the Bolton Training College for Technical Teachers.

Sir D. Eccles

The National Advisory Council on the Training and Supply of Teachers have made no formal report on this subject; they have recommended that an increase in the annual supply of trained teachers of technical subjects from about 270 to about 350 is desirable, although they were doubtful whether enough suitable candidates would be forthcoming to achieve such an increase during the next few years. I agree with the council's views, and hope to reach a decision about the future of Bolton Training College very shortly.
