HC Deb 25 November 1954 vol 533 c170W
Major Beamish

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether he is now in a position to state what are the Government's intentions with regard to the requisitioned land at Peacehaven, which is in course of being purchased under Section 85 of the Agriculture Act.

Mr. Amory

This land is divided into innumerable small plots many of which are in no known ownership. The planning authorities are of the opinion that this land should remain in agricultural use and that building development should not be permitted. In these circumstances I am satisfied, after a personal visit to the area, that if this land were to be derequisitioned, it would become largely unproductive. Moreover, purchase proceedings are already far advanced. The Government have therefore decided, after very careful consideration of all the circumstances, that the purchase of this land should be completed.
