HC Deb 24 November 1954 vol 533 c149W
Mr. Patrick Maitland

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether, in conjunction with Scottish Industrial Estates Limited, he has now considered the desirability of establishing factory space at Newmains, Carluke and Forth, in the county of Lanark, in anticipation of the decline of colliery activity in that neighbourhood as forecast in the County Development Plan.

Mr. P. Thorneycroft

The problems created by the declining coalfields in these places and in other parts of North Lanarkshire are under constant review. The Board of Trade are continuing their efforts to introduce new industry to the coal-mining parts of North Lanarkshire, but they have no power to direct an industrialist to any particular place.
