§ Mr. Patrick Maitlandasked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many shops have been built in the Mains East and Mains West neighbourhoods of East Kilbride, respectively; how many are to be built; by what date he expects the two shopping centres will be complete; and at what sites they are being, or will be, built.
§ Mr. J. StuartThe development corporation has built six shops in the Mains East area, and hopes to provide 15 more in 1955. In the Mains West area, no shops have so far been built, but the corporation have proposals for 11 shops under consideration and expects to build the first four of these by 1956. The new shops will be suitably distributed throughout the two areas and will be built on the sites shown on the corporation's plan.
