§ Mr. Rossasked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will give, in tabular form, the numbers of retired teachers, men and women respectively, in receipt of pensions of under £150, £150 to £200, and so on by grades of £50 up to £500 and over.

StuartThe work involved in extracting from the existing records the information asked for would not in my view be justified, but I hope that by the spring of 1955 certain changes which are being made in the method of maintaining the records will enable such information to be readily provided. The numbers of retired teachers in receipt of pensions and the average amount of the pensions in 1953 are given on pages 108 and 54 of the Annual Report of the Department (Cmd. 9141).
