HC Deb 04 November 1954 vol 532 cc68-9W
62. Mr. Steward

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he is aware that the 12-milesper-hour speed limit in certain London parks is not in tune with modern conditions; and if he will revise this limit.

Major Lloyd George

A speed limit of 12 miles an hour is imposed in certain London parks by a byelaw made by the London County Council on 1st November, 1932, under the powers conferred upon them by section 14 of the London Council (General Powers) Act, 1890. Consent to the application of the byelaw to a number of parks was given on 20th March, 1933. My function in regard to these byelaws is to approve their application to the various pleasure grounds; I have no power to amend the byelaws.
