HC Deb 27 May 1954 vol 528 c35W
3. Mr. Nally

asked the Minister of Education if, in co-operation with educational authorities, she will examine and make recommendations designed to curtail the present length and arbitrary timing of school holidays.

Miss Horsbrugh

Local education authorities have full discretion to adjust the length and timing of school holidays, provided that the total length of the school terms does not fall below the minimum prescribed in my regulations. I see no reason to increase this minimum or to recommend any general changes in timing.
