HC Deb 27 May 1954 vol 528 c45W
65. Mr. Awbery

asked the Minister of Health if his attention has been called to the analysis of the work of nurses in hospitals by the Nuffield Provincial Hospitals Trust, a copy of which has been sent to him; and, in view of the fact that there are sufficient nurses to cover the unused beds, if the nurse-power is used to the greatest possible advantage, and nursing organised nationally, what steps he is taking to bring about such a state of organisation.

Mr. Iain Macleod

This report is being studied by my Standing Nursing Advisory Committee and experiments in ward organisation are being carried out to test some of its conclusions. In the meantime, the question of the sufficiency of the existing nursing staff must remain a matter of opinion.
