HC Deb 26 May 1954 vol 528 cc26-7W
71. Mr. Hector Hughes

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies if he will specify the matters discussed by him with the Prime Minister of Malta, in London last week, and the conclusions arrived at as a result of those discussions.

Mr. Lyttelton

The discussions with the Prime Minister of Malta and the Minister of Emigration and Labour and their advisers are still continuing. An exchange of views is taking place on Her Majesty's Government's offer to transfer responsibility for the handling of matters relating to Malta to the Home Secretary. The development of Malta's plans for promoting emigration is also under discussion. I can say no more while the talks are still in progress.
