§ 70. Captain Kerbyasked the Minister of Agriculture why he gave permission for the ploughing-up of part of the Normanton group of barrows, which form part of the Stonehenge complex, in view of the fact that these barrows are scheduled as an ancient monument.
§ Sir T. DugdaleI think my hon. and gallant Friend is under a misapprehension. Application was made to my Department for a £10 an acre ploughing grant in respect of an area including part of the Normanton group of barrows. The applicant was told by my Department that he should not plough that part and that there could be no question of a grant in respect of it.
