HC Deb 11 March 1954 vol 524 c167W
44. Mr. Morley

asked the Minister of Education if she will explain the delay in granting permission for the building of a new secondary modern school at Ventnor, Isle of Wight; when the school will be started: and what will be the approximate date of completion.

Miss Horsbrugh

I have not hitherto approved the provision of a new school because by supplementing the existing school with temporary accommodation it has been possible, though with difficulty, to meet the needs of the area, and the Education Authority have regarded the provision of other new schools as more urgent. I shall shortly consider the urgency of this project in relation to that of others proposed by education authorities for inclusion in the 1955–56 programme. If I am able to include it, the Authority should be able to start building the school in the spring of 1955 and to finish it within two years.
