HC Deb 17 June 1954 vol 528 c164W
Mr. Gower

asked the Minister of Works if he will make a statement about the state of supplies of cement in South Wales and Monmouthshire; and what steps he will take to meet urgent requirements.

Mr. Bevins

Some contractors in South Wales and Monmouthshire are experiencing difficulty in obtaining all the cement they want. The attention of the industry has been drawn to the position and, with increasing supplies in the home market generally, my right hon. Friend hopes that the shortages will be overcome.

Mr. Gower

asked the Minister of Works if he will make a statement about the state of supplies of cement in the country at present.

Mr. Bevins

Supplies of cement are increasing. Since the end of the bad weather in the middle of March, total deliveries in the home market have been higher than in any corresponding previous period.
