asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he is aware that Japanese textile firms are importing into British West Africa exact copies of British designs; and whether he will take steps to stop this breach of the Anglo-Japanese trade agreement.

Yes. My right hon. Friend is fully aware of this. Copying of this kind is not, as my hon. Friend implies, a breach of the Anglo-Japanese trade agreement; but it is quite inconsistent with established standards of good trading practice and my right hon. Friend intends to bring the matter to the notice of the Japanese Government.
