Mr. Hamilton

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland the total amount paid in teachers' salaries in 1938–39, 1945–46, 1951–52 and 1952–53, respectively; and what were these figures, expressed as percentages, of the total educational expenditure for each year.

The total amounts of salaries paid to teachers employed by education authorities in Scotland and the percentages they represent of the total expenditure of the authorities for the years in question are given in the following table:
