asked the Minister of Labour the number of unfilled vacancies in the coalmining industry; and how many, and what proportion of them, are in Staffordshire.

Mr. Watkinson

There were 4,547 vacancies for men and boys in the coal-mining industry notified to employment exchanges in Great Britain and remaining unfilled at 5th May, 1954. Of these 1,002, or 22 per cent., were notified to employment exchanges in Staffordshire.
