§ Mr. J. P. L. ThomasI cannot accept the implication of the Question. During their period of annual training, National Service reservists either do intensive courses or have practical experience in their duties, often afloat. The value of122W part-time service both to the Service and the individual is under constant review, and if the hon. Member will send me particulars of any cases in which he considers our arrangements are deficient I will look into them.
§ 70. Mr. Awberyasked the First Lord of the Admiralty if he will arrange for the marriage allowance to be paid to the wives of men at the end of the first week of training in order to avoid hardship.
§ Mr. J. P. L. ThomasExisting arrangements provide for payment of marriage allowance for reservists under training by the end of the first week. Standing instructions emphasise that applications must be dealt with promptly.
