HC Deb 13 July 1954 vol 530 c24W
87. Mr. Dudley Williams

asked the Minister of Food if he is aware of the concern that is felt by the canning industry in the United Kingdom at the threat to their livelihood by canned goods continuing to be supplied to this country by the United States of America under the Mutual Security Act; and what action he proposes to take.

Dr. Hill

This canned fruit represents only about 3.9 per cent. of our total supplies. My right hon. and gallant Friend does not consider that this constitutes a threat to the home canning industry.
