HC Deb 13 July 1954 vol 530 c24W
Mr. Hector Hughes

asked the Minister of Food if he is aware that lemons are now scarce in Britain, and are likely to become more so, and thereby more expensive, until the new crop is available in the late autumn; and whether he will take steps to facilitate the importation of lemons from the United States of America to cover this period by permitting this fruit to share with oranges and grapefruit in the allocation of the funds earmarked for this trade.

Major Lloyd George

I am aware that supplies of lemons are less than usual this summer. Arrangements have now been made for the importation from the United States of America of some fresh lemons under the Mutual Security Aid Programme.
