HC Deb 21 January 1954 vol 522 c184W
Mr. Dodds

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what consideration he has given to the granting of the vote at 18 years of age; and what is the policy of Her Majesty's Government on this matter.

Sir D. Maxwell Fyfe

Her Majesty's Government agree with the view taken by the Speaker's Conference in 1944 and by Parliament in 1948 that the appropriate age for the franchise is still 21.
