§ Miss Hornsby-SmithThe figure for 1953 is not yet known. The provisional figure for the first nine months of the year was 5,750, compared with 6,637 for46W the corresponding period of 1952. The number of deaths in the full year 1952 was 8,934. Figures for pulmonary tuberculosis were not distinguished from other forms of respiratory tuberculosis in 1938, when the total number of deaths was 21,282.
