HC Deb 18 February 1954 vol 523 cc232-3W
72. Mr. Oliver

asked the Minister of Health how the number of over 4,000 persons on the waiting list for tonsil and adenoid operations at hospitals administered by Derby No. 1 Hospital Management Committee compares with similar hospital areas in the country; and to what extent the size of the list is due to shortage of doctors, hospital accommodation, nursing staff or to other causes.

Mr. Iain Macleod

The available information suggests that the waiting list in this area is unusually long. The number of beds is being increased and it is hoped to bring 18 more into use by 1st April, but there is some difficulty in recruiting nursing staff.
