HC Deb 18 February 1954 vol 523 c231W
Sir W. Smithers

asked the Minister of Agriculture what instructions he gave in regard to the grading of farms at the time ofthe Land Survey; whether farms which are producing 80 per cent. to 100 per cent, of the maximum are still graded A; whether those producing 60 per cent. to 80 per cent. are still graded B; and those producing less than 60 per cent. of the maximum are still graded C.

Sir T. Dugdale

The percentages quoted by my hon. Friend relate to the war-time farm survey that started in 1941 and no longer apply. Farm surveys were revised and remodelled in 1949, primarily as an aid to advisory work, and are still continuing. They are conducted by county agricultural executive committees who are no longer required to grade farmers and many in fact have ceased to do so.
