HC Deb 18 February 1954 vol 523 c241W
98. Mr. G. Williams

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he intends to protect the home-grown apple crap for the coming season.

Mr. P. Thorneycroft

Our balance of payments difficulties will make it necessary to maintain quantitative restrictions on the import of apples during the present year. So far as the future is concerned, an application for the imposition of a protective duty on foreign apples is under examination.
