HC Deb 11 February 1954 vol 523 cc165-6W
Brigadier Clarke

asked the Minister of Education if she will give teachers an opportunity to represent their point of view to her before they are asked to contribute an additional 1 per cent. to the Superannuation Fund.

Miss Horsbrugh

The teachers'associations were informed some 18 months ago of my proposals to raise the rate of contribution by 1 per cent. They made their views known to me both then and in the recent Report of the Joint Working Party with representatives of local authorities which was set up with my concurrence in order to consider possible changes in the superannuation scheme generally as well as the rate of contribution. It is, of course, open to them to make any further representations that they wish.
