asked the Minister of Agriculture the number of outbreaks of fowl pest from 1st October, 1953, to date; the number during the same period of the previous year; and how many birds were involved in each period.

There were 453 outbreaks of fowl pest between 1st October.

1953, and 8th February, 1954, as compared with 469 in the corresponding period of 1952–53. All the outbreaks were in England and Wales. The numbers of birds slaughtered were 234,216 and 282,614, respectively.
