HC Deb 11 February 1954 vol 523 cc154-5W
83. Mr. Benn

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many members of the police forces of the United Kingdom have been convicted in the courts in the last year for which figures are available; and what are the comparable figures for 1938 and the years since the war.

Sir D. Maxwell Fyfe

During the twelve months ended 30th September, 1953, 42 members of police forces in England and Wales were convicted of offences. For the 12 months ended 30th September, 1950, 1951 and 1952, the numbers were respectively 31, 33 and 38. I regret that figures for earlier years are not available.
