HC Deb 11 February 1954 vol 523 cc169-70W
Mr. Russell

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs when he expects the Protocol to the European Convention on Human Rights will be brought into force.

Mr. Dodds-Parker

Article VI of the Protocol provides that it shall come into force after the deposit of 10 instruments of ratification. Instruments of ratification have been deposited by nine signatory Governments, of which the United Kingdom was the first. The Protocol will thus enter into force automatically when another signatory Government has ratified.
