HC Deb 10 February 1954 vol 523 cc121-2W
Mr. Philips Price

asked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation whether, in view of the congestion of traffic on the South Wales road, A48, at Chepstow and its approaches, he will consider the construction of a road from Day House Farm, Tidenham, to Hayes Gate and over the Wye at Beachley.

Mr. Molson

I know that traffic conditions at Chepstow are difficult, but the construction of a new road from Tidenham to Beachley and that portion of the proposed Severn Bridge approach which extends from Beachley over the Wye to Haysgate would involve expenditure which cannot be undertaken at the present time. The construction of the Ross Spur, to which my right hon. and learned Friend the Home Secretary and Minister for Welsh Affairs referred on 8thDecember last, will, we hope, help to reduce the amount of through traffic which now uses the Newport—Gloucester Road.
