asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many times in each of the years 1950 to 1953,inclusive, it has been necessary for the police in the Metropolitan area to request the British Broadcasting Corporation to broadcast requests for information about road accidents; and what proportion of requests in each of those years has been successful.

In 1950 the British Broadcasting Corporation broadcast

respectively, in the Civil Defence Corps in London, Birmingham, Leeds, Sheffield, Manchester, Coventry, Plymouth, Southampton, Hull, Liverpool and Glasgow.

Following are the figures for 31st December, 1953:

cast 126 requests for information about road accidents in the Metropolitan and City of London areas; 58 per cent. of these were successful. In 1951 the corresponding figures were 151 and 50 per cent., in 1952, 119 and 55 per cent. and in 1953, 134 and 50 per cent.
