HC Deb 04 February 1954 vol 523 c63W
79. Mr. H. Hynd

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what action has been or will be taken in regard to recommendations of the Royal Commission on Betting, Lotteries and Gaming which reported nearly three years ago.

Sir D. Maxwell Fyfe

The Government have been considering the Commission's recommendations but as the House is aware, this is a controversial subject and there is already a full programme before the House for this Session. Some of the recommendations are followed in the Pool Betting Bill on which the House has not yet had an opportunity to come to a decision. If the House should give a Second Reading to this Bill the Government will carefully consider whether it can assist in its further stages.
