HL Deb 22 December 1954 vol 190 cc656-7WA
LORD GLYN

asked Her Majesty's Government whether representations can be made through the usual channels to the Ambassadors and Ministers of Foreign Missions in London that undue congestion is caused by the parking of cars throughout the day in streets which are important thoroughfares, and also it is causing serious inconvenience to residents who are unable to approach their own house entrances, notably in the Grosvenor Square district, and to request that appropriate action be taken to remedy this nuisance.

THE JOINT PARLIAMENTARY UNDER-SECRETARY OF STATE FOR THE HOME DEPARTMENT (LORD MANCROFT)

The Minister of Transport and the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis are very much alive to the congestion caused by parking of cars in the neighbourhood of Grosvenor Square. The police pay special attention to this matter and considerable improvement has been effected by experimental restrictions on waiting which were introduced on December 6 in certain streets in the area referred to. The cars parked in and near Grosvenor Square are by no means all used by members of the diplomatic corps, but I am satisfied that the various Embassies and Legations co-operate in this matter and give every help to the police in removing vehicles which give rise to complaint.
