HC Deb 21 December 1954 vol 535 cc257-8W
78. Mr. Edelman

asked the President of the Board of Trade why he has permitted an increase in the number of United States motor cars which will be imported into Britain during 1955; and whether he is aware of the effect on employment of his decision.

Mr. Low

Our balance of payments has now improved sufficiently for us to be able to afford a modest relaxation in our restrictions on imports of North American motor cars. I see no reason to expect that this decision will affect employment in our own industry.
