HC Deb 21 December 1954 vol 535 c258W
79. Mr. Baird

asked the President of the Board of Trade what medicines are on the list of goods on which there is an embargo for export to China.

Mr. Low

The embargo covers a few basic materials such as bismuth and mercury compounds which could be used for medicinal as well as strategic purposes. Antibiotics, sulphonamides and anti-malarial drugs were freed from all restriction in November, 1953.
