§ 77. Mr. Pageasked the First Lord of the Admiralty what contracts he will place or has placed for refitment of naval vessels in Mersey dockyards during 1955 which may relieve the possibility of unemployment of dock workers there after completion of the winter renovation of passenger liners.
§ Mr. J. P. L. ThomasA contract for the refit of a cruiser for the Indian Navy has recently been placed on Merseyside and contracts for the refit of three destroyers are also about to be placed there. It is impossible for me to say at present what further naval work will be placed on Merseyside next year, but my hon. Friend may rest assured that the claims of this area will be fully borne in mind together with those of other repair areas.
