HC Deb 15 December 1954 vol 535 c144W
60. Mr. Russell

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies if he will make a statement on the present position of the wine industry in Cyprus.

Mr. Hopkinson

There are 29 factories in Cyprus, employing about 700 persons and producing annually about three million gallons of wine and spirits, about half of which is exported. Production and marketing are mainly undertaken by private enterprise, but there is also a co-operative organisation, which produces about 13 per cent. of the total output. If there is any point on which my hon. Friend wants more detailed information I will ask the Governor of Cyprus to supply it.
