HC Deb 15 December 1954 vol 535 c165W
137. Mr. Donnelly

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he will make a statement on the action he has taken already in our capacity as looking after United States Government interests in Peking to bring about an exchange of the Chinese students at present in the United States of America who have been refused permission by the United States authorities to return to China and a similar number of Americans who are detained by the Chinese authorities.

Mr. Turton

In matters affecting United States interests in China we act only at the specific request of the United States Government. We have received no request to take action on the lines of the hon. Member's Question.
