HC Deb 14 December 1954 vol 535 cc115-6W
82. Mr. Woodburn

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he is prepared to consider, as part of the Government's proposed developments in education, the development of Glasgow Technical College into a technological university.

Mr. J. Stuart

The Government believe that the progress of higher technological education in Glasgow can best be served if the College and the University work out a relationship which, without in any way hampering the development of the College, would enable their work to be co-ordinated. The Government therefore invited the two institutions to enter into discussions with a view to evolving a scheme which would be satisfactory to both parties and they hope that the discussions now in progress will have a satisfactory outcome.
