HC Deb 14 December 1954 vol 535 c133W
Mr. Ashton

asked the Minister of Education the result of the efforts which have been made to encourage employers to release students for part-time day education.

Sir D. Eccles

The numbers of such students have almost doubled since the end of the war, as the following figures show:

Number of students released by employers for part-time day attendance
1946–47 167,403
1950–51 264,016
1953–54 323,000 (provisional)

But I am by no means satisfied that all employers realise the value of these day-courses, and I hope that much wider use will be made of them.
