HC Deb 13 December 1954 vol 535 c98W
100. Mr. Donnelly

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he will make a statement on the present position of Kuomintang forces still in Burma; and what further steps are being taken to remove them.

Mr. Turton

A joint military committee consisting of representatives of the United States, Siam and the Chinese Nationalist authorities was set up under United Nations auspices in Bangkok in May, 1953. This Committee reported to the General Assembly at its present session that nearly 7,000 Kuomintang troops and dependants had been evacuated from Burma. The committee concluded its work on 1st September, and the remaining troops are being dealt with by the Burma Government. The General Assembly of the United Nations has invited the Burma Government to report on the situation as appropriate.
