HC Deb 09 December 1954 vol 535 c69W
73. Mr. Willey

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what steps he is taking to ensure that the Arts Council will give greater support to provincial ventures.

Mr. H. Brooke

As I stated in reply to the hon. Member for Newcastle-under-Lyme (Mr. Swingler) on 26th October, my right hon. Friend would not wish to interfere with the discretion of the Arts Council in apportioning their resources. I pointed out, however, that the Council is this year spending outside London a much larger percentage of its expenditure on opera and ballet.
