HC Deb 29 April 1954 vol 526 cc159-60W
40 Mrs. White

asked the Undersecretary of State for Commonwealth Relations if his attention has been drawn to the observations of the Bechuanaland European Advisory Council on the use of the abattoir at Lobatsi; how far the matter has been discussed by the African Advisory Council; and if he will make a statement of Government policy on this question.

Mr. J. Foster

Both European and African Advisory Councils were fully consulted before it was decided in 1950 that the Colonial Development Corporation should establish an abattoir at Lobatsi. I have seen Press reports of views recently expressed by the European Council and have called for a report from the High Commissioner. I should prefer not to make any statement at present.
