§ 89. Mr. Awberyasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies if he is aware that unemployment is increasing in the new villages in Malaya; and what steps are being taken by the Government of the Federation to deal with this problem of such potential danger.
§ Mr. LytteltonYes. The increase is mainly in the mining areas, but most of the persons affected are capable of agricultural work and the Federation Government is providing more land suitable for cultivation near their villages. Other employment will be provided by the State Governments which are undertaking improvements to the villages. Long-term plans are the subject of separate consideration.
