§ Mr. Donnellyasked the Minister of Works, in view of the shortage of bricks in West Wales, what steps he is taking to encourage the reopening of the brickworks at Porthgain, Pembrokeshire.
§ Sir D. EcclesThis works has not produced bricks for nearly 30 years; the kilns have been dismantled, the machinery removed, and the buildings 255W are derelict. Brick production in South Wales is increasing and I cannot say whether the considerable capital required to reopen this works would give as good a result as extensions elsewhere. I should make it clear that there are no public funds for the financing of brickworks.
