HC Deb 26 November 1953 vol 521 c66W
68. Mr. Sorensen

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what supervision and inspection takes place in respect of hostels run by voluntary organisations or by persons for young people who have previously been under institutional care but who have had to live in such hostels instead of in private homes when entering employment.

Sir D. Maxwell Fyfe

Such hostels provided by voluntary organisations or local authorities are inspected by the Home Office. Hostels provided by other agencies for young people of working age are not subject to Home Office inspection: if used by voluntary organisations or local authorities for boys or girls in their care, it falls to the organisation or authority placing the child to satisfy themselves that the conditions are satisfactory.
