HC Deb 25 November 1953 vol 521 c38W
Mrs. White

asked the Minister of Food how much refined sugar was purchased by his Department abroad to meet the expected demand on derationing; how much of this has been sold to the public; and what complaints he has received from domestic refiners that they have stocks on their hands which they cannot sell, owing to his purchases.

Major Lloyd George

About 57,000 tons; most of it was sold before derationing and the rest has been distributed since. I have received no complaints.
