HC Deb 25 November 1953 vol 521 cc37-8W
64. Mr. Thornton-Kemsley

asked the Minister of Food whether he is in a position to make a statement on the future of the meat ration, in view of the approaching end of the seasonal flush in home production.

Major Lloyd George

Yes. Last June, I was able to announce that during the season of heavy supplies butchers would receive a supplementary issue, in addition to the ration of 2s. 4d., and would be permitted to sell meat off the ration after the needs of their registered customers had been met. Now that the season is over, we must return for a time to normal rationing and from next Sunday the ration will be 2s. 2d. without supplement.

I am glad to say, however, that the extra issues of bacon will continue, and there will be enough for everybody to get what they want.
