HC Deb 24 November 1953 vol 521 cc15-6W
63. Dr. Stross

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government whether he is aware that the quarry at Whitecliffe Farm, which he has authorised for reopening, is only a few miles east of the upper reaches of Dovedale; and whether he will fix a five-mile limit in connection with this National Park within which quarrying will in no circumstances be permitted.

Mr. Marples

In making decisions recently regarding the opening or extension of quarries in North-West Derbyshire my right hon. Friend has tried to strike a fair balance between the claims of amenity and economic advantage, including employment. The decisions must be judged as a whole.
