§ 42. Mr. Hamiltonasked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation the estimated cost, at current prices, of the proposed Whiteinch tunnel, the widening of the Glasgow—Stirling road, and the Forth Road Bridge project, respectively; and when a start will be made on either the tunnel or the bridge.
§ Mr. MolsonThe estimated cost of the Whiteinch Tunnel is £4 million, of the Glasgow—Stirling Road improvement £2 million, and of the Forth Road Bridge £13½ million. When these schemes can be started must depend upon the amount of funds made available from year to year for road improvements.
§ 43. Mr. N. Macphersonasked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation whether he is aware of the unsatisfactory condition of the section of the Carlisle-Prestcote-Glasgow road lying within the county of Dumfries; and what steps are being taken to provide the necessary finance and labour needed to improve it more rapidly than has been done in the past few years.
§ Mr. MolsonMy right hon. Friend is aware of the unsatisfactory state of this length of road. A special extra allocation has been made to it over each of the last four years and is included in the figures for maintenance and minor improvement given in the first part of my right hon. Friend's answer of 11th November. This is all that we have been able to spare, but we are anxious to do more work on this road as soon as our resources permit.
