HC Deb 17 November 1953 vol 520 cc149-50W
104. Sir W. Wakefield

asked the Minister of Labour why, in view of the unsatisfied demand for young people in industry, an additional amount of £120,000 is being expended on the administration of the Youth Employment Service.

Mr. Watkinson

The additional provision arises from an increase in the estimate for grants to local education authorities and is mainly due to increased salaries, with arrears, payable under a national award to local government officers, and to higher rent and maintenance costs.

I would remind my hon. Friend that this Service provides a valuable service to the nation in advising young people about careers and helping them to find the employment which is most suitable to them as individuals.
