64. Mr. Willey

asked the President of the Board of Trade why he held no consultation with Messrs. Price Tailors, Limited, before they announced their decision to close their Sunderland Trading Estates factory.

Mr. H. Strauss

The company were not under any obligation to consult us in this matter, but North-Eastern Trading Estates Limited had discussions with the company about their intentions in so far as these had been made known to the estate company in advance.

65. Mr. Willey

asked the President of the Board of Trade how many people, men and women, respectively, were employed in the factories administered by the North-Eastern Trading Estates, Limited, on the latest available date.

On 29th August, 1953, the latest date for which official figures are available, 18,605 men and boys and 25,789 women and girls, making a total of 44,394, were employed in these factories.
